About Us

The Sunday Science School is a registered institute for advancing the concept of learning by Doing. In a more apt way, it is an institute that facilitates Experiential learning, mainly for young brains! SSS is launched by people who are active in the field of Science Activities for students for more than 20 years.

In 2008, SSS programme was launched at Ahmednagar, Maharashtra. On successful completion of 3 years, the programme was replicated at more than 75 locations in Maharashtra , Karnataka, Kerala, Tamilnadu, Andhra Pradesh, Goa, Madhya Pradesh, Gujrat, Rajsthan, Uttar Pradesh and Delhi NCR. Based on the rich experience of science activities and manufacturing and designing of science kits for over 20 years.

SSS has developed a Hands-on science syllabus which is mapped with CBSE curriculum.

Concept

Our schools have a common complaint, that they don’t have time to include anything beyond their regular curriculum. In the same vein, schools may find it difficult to introduce “Hands-0on” science activities to every student. We have strong conviction that Doing science is not just beneficial, but absolute necessary to know science in its spirits. Showing science experiments by teachers or using modern tools like virtual labs and e-learning software is not adequate to develop habit of experimentation or gain confidence of doing things by hands. The reason why 3 idiots film became a huge success in India was mainly because it depicted the flaws in educational system, the major drawback being the bookish learning it promotes. Rote learning still plagues our system. Students study only to score marks in exams, and sometimes to crack exams like IIT, JEE, AIIMS or NEET. The practicality of the subjects remains unknown to the students even when they have a graduation in hand. The colonial masters introduced education systems in India to create clerks and civil servants, and we have not deviated much from that pattern till today. Our education system is geared towards teaching and testing knowledge at every level as opposed to teaching and testing skills. The goal of our new education system should be to create entrepreneurs, innovators, artists, scientists and thinkers who can establish the foundation of a knowledge based economy.
It’s time to join hands…

Sunday Science School has focused its efforts on school children. If groomed at proper age, children will become an asset to our nation. We have emphasized on experiential science learning. This develops many qualities in children like curiosity, observation skills, analytical approach, problem solving skills, scientific temperament, creativity, patience etc. Many schools have included our “CBSE mapped hands-on science” activities in their regular curriculum to give children this much needed opportunity.
Take students from virtual world to the Real world…

Our Vision

Sunday Science School has focused its efforts on school children. If groomed at proper age, children will become an asset to our nation. In contrast to the didactic learning, we have emphasized on Experiential science learning. Hands-on science activities help children explore science at their own pace. They prove some hypotheses through experiments and their results. This develops many qualities in children, like, curiosity, observational skills, analytical approach, problem solving techniques, scientific temperament, creativity, patience etc.

A survey shows that children at age of 10 spend over 30 hours a week watching TV, internet or handling mobiles. It means by the time they reach their 8th grade, they would have spent 5000 hours in wasteful activities. This is more than it takes to obtain a bachelor’s degree.

Our attempt is to give children science activities to engage them intellectually and physically. The goal is not necessarily to create scientists, but to create civilized Indians, who apply their brain to the problems and use scientific approach to find their solution.

Our Mission

  • To Give
In contrast to didactic learning Sunday Science School (SSS) emphasizes on experiential science learning.

  • Develope
Qualities like curiosity, observation, analytical approach.

  • Enhance
Skills like problem solving, scientific temperament, creativity and patience

  • To Nurture
Future thinkers, who apply their brain to the problems and use scientific approach to find solutions.

The Only Source of Knowledge is
“Experience”

Dr. Sujata Virdhe
Co-Founder

Founder of L green Ventures & co-founder of Sunday Science School. Earlier in her career as a senior scientist at ISRO, she developed the Solar Arrays Power Systems for many of India’s prestigious satellite missions. Sujata has done her doctorate in Physics and has at her credit a few design patents – which she fondly calls ‘3 dimensional energy structures’. She is a believer, that one day physics will have the answers to ‘metaphysics’; though physics is not at all a necessity for metaphysical experiences. Basic sciences being her passion, she is also credited with many successful science expositions and unique hands-on science competitions.
